The Vincentian women trailed 11–8 after the first quarter and 28–24 at halftime, but they produced a strong second half to level the contest before edging ahead in the final period at the Garfield Sobers Sports Complex.

The United States established the early advantage, taking an 11–8 lead after the opening quarter. By halftime the Americans had extended their advantage to 28–24, leaving St. Vincent and the Grenadines needing a response.

That response came in the third quarter. The Vincy Jewels outscored the United States 12–8, wiping out the halftime deficit and sending the teams into the final quarter tied at 36–36.

With the match on the line, SVG won the fourth quarter 14–12 to complete a comeback and seal a 50–48 victory, according to the quarter-by-quarter scoreboard published by USA Netball.

Vincy Jewels Set Their Sights on Sydney 2027

The victory gives the Vincy Jewels an encouraging start to the Americas Netball World Cup Qualifiers, running October 19–26 in Barbados. Eight nations are competing: Barbados, the British Virgin Islands, Canada, Grenada, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, and the United States.

Each team is scheduled to face the other seven countries in the round-robin tournament. The two highest-finishing teams will be invited to compete at the 2027 Netball World Cup in Sydney, Australia.

The result also follows another regional achievement by a Vincentian national team. Vincypowa News previously reported on SVG’s victory in the 2026 Eastern Caribbean men’s volleyball championship.

A Qualifier SVG Was Supposed to Host

The tournament also comes with a reminder of an opportunity St. Vincent and the Grenadines lost off the court. SVG was initially expected to host the Americas qualifier, but the government withdrew in February 2026, saying required facility upgrades could not be completed in time to meet regional and international standards.

Barbados subsequently took over hosting duties. That means the Vincy Jewels are pursuing their World Cup ambitions away from home, rather than in front of a home crowd.

Trinidad and Tobago Next

The Vincy Jewels face Trinidad and Tobago on Tuesday, October 20, at 6 p.m. Eastern Caribbean time, according to World Netball’s official schedule. Trinidad and Tobago opened their campaign with a 61–45 win over Grenada.

The Vincy Jewels still have six matches ahead, but the opening game delivered an important result: down by four at halftime, tied after three quarters and victorious by two at the final whistle.

Final score: St. Vincent and the Grenadines 50, United States 48.
