The Vincy Jewels answered a heavy loss to Trinidad and Tobago with a 10-goal win over Canada in Barbados, as co-captain Mary-Ann Frederick scored 44 goals from 45 attempts.
The Vincy Jewels beat Canada 51-41 on Wednesday, October 21, at the Americas qualifier for the 2027 Netball World Cup, bouncing back one day after a 73-41 defeat to Trinidad and Tobago.
The win at the Garfield Sobers Sports Complex in Barbados lifted St. Vincent and the Grenadines to two wins from three matches, keeping the Vincy Jewels in the race for one of the two World Cup places on offer. The top two teams at the end of the eight-nation tournament earn invitations to the Netball World Cup in Sydney, Australia, in 2027, according to World Netball.

How the Vincy Jewels beat Canada
SVG led from the first whistle. The Vincy Jewels opened up a 16-9 lead after the first quarter and held a 26-22 advantage at halftime. Canada stayed within reach through the third quarter, trailing 38-32, before SVG pulled away in the final period to win by 10.
Goal shooter Mary-Ann Frederick was named player of the match after converting 44 of her 45 attempts, a shooting rate of nearly 98 percent. Joseann Antoine added 3 goals from 3 attempts at goal attack, and substitute Shellisa Davis scored 4 from 10.
For Canada, goal shooter Ladonna Lamonth scored 23 from 34 attempts and goal attack Jacqueline Kelly added 18 from 24.
“We were hungry and my team was hungry for the win and we played and did what we were supposed to do,” Frederick said after the match, iWitness News reported.
Assistant coach Akeil Mathew said the team regrouped after Tuesday’s loss: “We knew that we have what it takes to win today and we just went back to the drawing board and executed today.”
