Vincy Jewels post a 78-goal win in Barbados to keep their Netball World Cup hopes on track.
The Vincy Jewels of St. Vincent and the Grenadines beat the British Virgin Islands 91–13 on Friday, October 23, at the Americas qualifier for the 2027 Netball World Cup. The 78-goal margin is the largest win over the BVI so far in the tournament.

How the Vincy Jewels beat the BVI quarter by quarter
The Vincy Jewels controlled the game from the first whistle. They led 25–4 after the first quarter, 49–6 at halftime and 70–10 after three quarters. They then outscored their opponents 21–3 in the final period.

Goal shoot Mary-Ann Frederick did most of the damage, scoring 71 goals from 74 attempts. Joseann Antoine added 7 from 9, while Shellisa Davis and Kristiana Christopher each scored 6 from 7. Sakena Cooner led the BVI with 6 goals from 7 attempts.
The win was the Jewels’ third in four matches at the tournament in Barbados, following their 51-41 victory over Canada. The hosting rights moved to Barbados after the SVG government withdrew earlier this year.
What the coach said about the 100-goal debate
Some spectators felt the Vincy Jewels should have pushed for 100 goals. Head coach Baptiste-Samuel said the team had played to a plan built for this opponent, and that each team they face needs its own strategy. “I am pleased that they adhered to what we asked them to do,” she told iWitness News. She also warned against complacency, saying the tournament looks open to everybody.
The margin compares favorably with other teams’ results against the BVI. Barbados opened the tournament with a 65-goal win over them, and Canada won 67–20.
What is at stake for the Vincy Jewels
Two places at the World Cup are available, and the Vincy Jewels are in the hunt for one of them. The two qualifiers will join Jamaica’s Sunshine Girls as the Americas’ representatives in Sydney, Australia, from August 25 to September 5, 2027.
