How the Vincy Jewels Secured Their World Cup Ticket

Only the two highest-placed teams in the eight-nation Americas qualifying tournament would advance to Sydney. The Vincy Jewels opened with a narrow 50–48 victory over the United States before suffering a 73–41 defeat to regional powerhouse Trinidad and Tobago.

They responded emphatically. SVG defeated Canada 51–41, overwhelmed the British Virgin Islands 91–13 and produced a crucial 49–43 victory over hosts Barbados on October 24.

A commanding 77–52 win against Grenada on October 25 left the Vincentians one victory away from World Cup qualification. The final match against St. Lucia proved to be the tightest test of all, requiring overtime before the Vincy Jewels prevailed 55–53.

The team finished the seven-match campaign with six wins and one defeat.

The Players Have Earned Their Moment

The accomplishment reflects the discipline and dedication of the players, head coach Natasha Baptiste-Samuel, the support staff and the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Netball Association. The squad demonstrated resilience after its defeat to Trinidad and Tobago and held its nerve when qualification was on the line.

This triumph also places renewed attention on the importance of sustained investment in women’s sports. Netball remains among the nation’s strongest international sporting disciplines, and the Vincy Jewels have shown what Vincentian athletes can achieve through determination and preparation.

Sydney 2027 Awaits

The Netball World Cup is scheduled for August 25 to September 5, 2027, in Sydney. The Vincy Jewels will now prepare to compete against the world’s leading netball nations.

Their success deserves more than congratulations. It calls for practical support in training, travel, equipment, medical care and preparation for the global stage.

Congratulations to the Vincy Jewels. You have made St. Vincent and the Grenadines proud. Sydney 2027, here we come!
