Vincy Heat Name Canadian Michael Findlay as New Head Coach
Findlay, a former interim boss of Canada’s national team who has since coached Grenada and Bermuda, takes charge of a side ranked 171st in the world and chasing a return to relevance.
The St Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation has appointed Canadian coach Michael Findlay as the new head coach of the senior men’s national team, Vincy Heat.
Announcing the move, the federation said Findlay brought a wealth of international coaching experience and leadership as he began what it called an exciting new chapter with Vincentian football.
The appointment gives Vincy Heat a coach with a long CONCACAF pedigree. Findlay, 62 and born in Winnipeg, built his reputation in the Canadian game, working through the national youth ranks before joining Canada’s senior coaching staff in 2013 and then serving as the team’s interim head coach in 2016 and 2017. He later moved into Caribbean football, taking charge of Grenada in 2021 and 2022 and then Bermuda from 2023 until this year. Away from the touchline, he spent years in player development in Canada, including as British Columbia Soccer’s director of football development.

He inherits a programme with plenty of rebuilding to do. Vincy Heat sit 171st in FIFA’s April 2026 ranking, far from the high of 73rd the team reached in 2007. St Vincent and the Grenadines’ defining moment remains its lone appearance at the CONCACAF Gold Cup in 1996, and its nearest brush with a return came in the 2019-20 Nations League before a loss to Haiti in the Gold Cup preliminaries. The national team plays its home fixtures at Arnos Vale.
On the public record, the senior job had most recently been held by Ezra Hendrickson, the Vincentian former Major League Soccer defender and coach. Findlay’s immediate focus will be the next Nations League cycle and the longer climb back toward Gold Cup contention, a stage Vincy Heat has not reached in three decades.
