Man Shot Dead in Dickson, SVG’s 29th Homicide of 2026

Police in St Vincent and the Grenadines are investigating the fatal shooting of a man in the North Windward community of Dickson, whose body was found with apparent gunshot wounds on Saturday morning.

The dead man has been identified as Clydon Cato, a 31-year-old resident of Dickson, also known by the aliases “Nico” and “Savage.” Residents woke on Saturday, 1 August, to news of the killing as officers responded to the scene and began their investigation.

The circumstances of Cato’s death remain unclear. Investigators have not said how the shooting occurred, nor whether anyone has been identified as a suspect.

SVG Homicide Tracker 2026: Cato’s death is the 29th homicide recorded in St Vincent and the Grenadines so far this year. It follows the 28th, a man gunned down on the Lowman’s Leeward public road in late July, and the Chinatown triple shooting in Kingstown on 17 July that killed three men and pushed the count to 27. SVG recorded 40 homicides in 2025.

Police have urged anyone with information that may assist the investigation to contact the Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force. The force’s standard information lines are the Criminal Investigations Department / Major Crimes Unit at 456-1810, Police Control at 457-1211, the emergency lines 999 or 911, or the nearest police station. All information is treated in the strictest confidence.

This is a developing story. Vincypowa News will update it as further details are confirmed by authoritative sources.

Clydon Cato: a name known to the courts

Cato had come to public attention before. Searchlight and The Vincentian both reported that in late November 2021 he was charged with the attempted murder of Hyron Ryan of Spring Village, Georgetown, who was warded in intensive care at the time, and that he was denied bail at the Serious Offences Court.

According to iWitness News, that attempted-murder charge was withdrawn on 22 August 2022, when Cato instead faced a charge of unlawfully and maliciously wounding Ryan. In May 2023, ANN reported, Cato, then 28 and serving time for burglary and wounding, was acquitted of rape and of assault causing actual bodily harm after a nine-member jury, made up of seven women and two men, found him not guilty on both counts.
